It's hard to believe we're heading into the final months of 2018. Was it not only yesterday we were laying out our goals for the year?
I've found -- and I think a lot of you might agree -- that as we get older, time seems to move a lot quicker. Moments pass you by and in a flash you look up to see you're approaching 40. In my youth, the only time(s) when life sped by was when you were having fun i.e. summer vacation. These days, there are moments I sit back and feel entire years have passed by without barely flinching.
...and now I've stared at this screen for a good 15 minutes, in between typing and deleting sentences that just didn't seem to flow into what I was previously talking about.
I love when that happens.
So, there were 15 minutes in which my mind was scattershot, music playing in the background and the wintry, fireside scent of the holidays filling the room. My coffee had cooled, my cereal had become soggy and there was nothing to show for it. I was not caffeinated, not satiated, had no words. But at least my apartment smelled nice.
Even with this hiccup to stall things, there was a brief flash in which my mind relaxed (something that is hard to do). Unpacking an endless cycle of weary news regarding this country, rejection, and moments of stalling had given my brain and heart very little reprieve this week. But, when given a chance to settle for only the briefest of moments, I realize there is a balance to everything.
A chance to grow, to evolve, and to get better; to help and fight where others can't. Opportunities that I still have and things to do as this life progresses.
Taking the time to see that does wonders, even if it is flying by at a rate sometimes difficult to grasp.
And for that, I'm grateful.

Current Projects
The last month has been one spent hustling to finish up a holiday youth novel I've been working on. Ever closer to the finish line, but I will have to put in some work to get it done before the end of November.
Rewrites have also continued on my latest full-length play, Half Past Midnight. I'm about one-third of the way through the 2nd draft so hopefully by the end of the year or in early 2019 it will be ready for a private reading.
I also continue my work as a contributor to Chowder and Champions and Bronco Nation News. The Boston Red Sox won the World Series, which kept me busy much of October, and the Boise State Broncos have found their winning ways again.
In the theater world, I will be co-directing the upcoming Alley Repertory Theater Christmas Extravaganza. This show promises to be an endearing journey and opens November 29 at the Visual Arts Collective.
And though I am unable to make the screening, a film I co-wrote along with Shelby Bay and Brandon Freeman called Taking Flight will be showing at the Sandwiches Film Festival this upcoming weekend in Twin Falls.
November around the Treasure Valley
It is this time of year when which there isn't a lack of finding something to do. Here are just a few to check out:
-The Wintry Market is happening 11/17-11/18 at the JUMP building in Boise.
-Story, Story Night Boise kicks off their flagship season with CARBON on November 27 at JUMP.
-The Boise State women's basketball team hosts the Louisville Cardinals on November 19. The Lady Broncos are predicted to win the Mountain West, while Louisville is nationally ranked and coming off a Final Four berth last season.
-On November 23, the Idaho Food Bank will have their annual Empty Bowls event.
